Hyundai built an air purifier out of recycled Ioniq 5 EV parts
Each car is the result of a long development process in which car manufacturers build many pre-production vehicles that never see the light of day. Rather than discourageing one of his Ioniq 5 test vehicles entirely, Hyundai has set out the car parts to make an air purifier.
According to a description of the YouTube video, the model “has crossed many tests to ensure our safety.” The video notes that during a year, the vehicle was used to test the tastes of the acoustic vehicle warning system, the regulation of the passing noise and the noise of the wind tunnel.
The video shows Hyundai engineers stripping the IONIQ 5 to its bones, then designing a completely different product using components. Among other parts, they used the cooling fan, door panels, LED fire lamp, infotainment unit and, of course, the filtering unit. Engineers put a 20-inch alloy wheel on the top of the housing (the purifier is probably quite large), while the emblem of the car adds a professional brand image.
Although many car parts are already recyclable, including batteries, it’s a careful experience. He suggests that there are other sustainable ways to reuse a car that has otherwise survived its usefulness. Meanwhile, Hyundai started deliveries from IONIQ 5 to the United States this month.
